Christmas Food Porn - Part I

I'm calling this Part I because we all know...Christmas is about the food. And at my place, it's all about the food porn shots.

So this year I continue my anti-gifting trend and have only made a few homemade treats for my immediate family. Here's the recipe.

Chocolate-dipped Candied Orange Peel

1. Take 4 large organic oranges, peel rind, take picture

2. Cut the rind into thin strips and boil the be-jeezus out of them for about 5 min.

3. Rinse and repeat

4. Now in the same pot, add 4 cups of sugar to 1.5 cups of water. And continue with the be-jeezus boiling action. Or rather, heat to a boil then simmer for 45 min. Temperature should not exceed 230F cause apparently this will result in burning the cr*p out of the rind and sugar. Not that I did that....

5. After 45 min drain the sugary goodness but make sure you save it. Because it'll keep in a jar on your counter and you'll wonder every day what the heck you should do with it, but it's awesome orangy sugar so chucking it would simply be wrong. Put rind in bowl and toss with sugar to coat.

5. Lay out rind on wax paper to dry for 5hrs or overnight if you're lazy like me or just don't like waking up at 3am to deal with candied citrus rind.

6. Next day, if you so choose (and you really should so choose) dip those suckers in some good Callebault chocolate. Oh ya baby. Allow to cool, i stuck mine in the fridge, again, cause i don't like being a slave to candied citrus.

7. I bought some cute little red chinese takeout boxes as containers and shipped them out before I had the chance to take any photos of the final product but, you get the picture. Mom, if you're reading this...Merry Christmas! This is your present. Sorry for wrecking the surprise.

OK time for rum...
